Happiness to be loved

author

Felix Labisse

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Center Pompidou, Paris (France).

One of the most famous mature paintings of the artist, which gave the name to his exhibitions, articles and monographs about him and his work. In general, woman is the most frequent topic in the works of F. Labisse; in 1940s, almost all of them have animal or plant heads. According to the critic, the plot stories of the artist “turn into shy shamelessness, as if the viewer discovered the secret of some kind of love battle.” A semi-naked woman voluptuously stretches herself standing up from a glamorous sofa. Perhaps, the grin of a lioness is conceived to cover up all the pleasures she has received. A feminine character with flowing shapes and wet colors in a strange, timeless world.
