description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The National Museum of the Contemporary Art, Center Pompidou, Paris (France).

This painting of the early period has a frontal multi-figure composition, made in a decorative manner. It is close to popular folk technique due to its bright colors and conventionality of the image of characters. Most of them look like marionettes. The queen placed in the center of the composition is surrounded by courtiers, musicians and guards scaled by the author in accordance with their significance at court. Later, in the period of “blue women”, the artist created a separate engraving named «The woman in blue called The Queen of Sheba».
