description

Mediums: latex, wire..
Location: Museum of Modern Art (New York, the USA).

The sculpture made of latex is a giant phallus swaying on a hook, which outrages viewers with its frankness. Cruelly hung on a butcher’s metal hook, it resembles a meat carcass prepared for cutting. This image is dual, combining both male and female characters since the foundation of the sculpture can be mistaken for both female breasts and male testes. The theme of the work was not chosen by chance, since during this period Louise Bourgeois actively advocated the abolition of censorship in art, which prohibits the display of too sexual and outrageous sculptures. She believed that nothing could be forbidden in art and fought for the complete freedom of expression.
