Garden. Set design for R. Wagner’s opera “The Nuremberg Mastersingers”

author

Tatyana Glebova

description

Mediums: watercolor, whitewash, paper.
Location: The State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg (Russia).

One of the artist’s first works for the theater was the scenery for Wagner’s opera “Nuremberg Singing Masters”. Glebova was invited to take part in the stage design by Vladimir Dmitriev, a well-known artist-decorator who was keenly interested in contemporary art trends and often visited the house of Glebova and Poret. Despite a certain amount of criticism that concerned the scenery in general, the work “Garden” is distinguished by an amazing sense of rhythm and harmony and immediately became an independent work. Performed in the spirit of analytical art, it attracts you with its musicality and airiness, creating a feeling of joyful serenity.
