Flight forms

author

Jean Pougny

description

Mediums: gouache, pencil, paper.
Location: The Museum of Modern Art, New York (the USA).

Briefly about the painting:

This painting is the author’s repetition of the plot (the first picture remained in Russia). The composition is significantly different from the original one and expresses the flight – the big blue ball (the main form) is placed in the upper corner; words “escape” and “spectrum” go vertically. However, the plastic techniques (the author kept the scatteredness and different scales of letters, but increased the number of letters “m” in the word “form” up to eleven. During the exhibition at the “Sturm-Galerie” (Berlin, personal opening day), Pougny installed “escape” on the wall of the hall, and other letters were “worn” by hired actors.
