Etre Cible Nous Monde

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection (Geneva, Switzerland).

The canvas is dedicated to space topic, which became extremely popular in the postwar years. The mechanical object depicted here resembles a fantastic aircraft or satellite. It directs several flying balls, apparently charged with electric energy, and containing a hidden threat to the Earth and its inhabitants. The painting was influenced by the work of French Dada artist Marcel Duchamp, whom Matta met in the USA, and especially by his famous creation “Big Glass”, which depicts a similar rotating object.
