Dynamics of colours (Futuristic composition)

author

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg (Russia).

The canvas is an example of cubofuturism and the Russian-Ukrainian avant-garde as a whole; it demonstrates a bright palette and bold technique that fully corresponds to its name. The dynamic plot suggests broken lines, sharp geometric shapes, and contrasting spots of paints. The author was not afraid of tar-black in combination with monochrome white. She used charcoal colour in bold quantities, which requires men’s courage. The arcs “fit” one on top of the other, drawing inconstancy and some kind of rainbow movement without a strict destination. The colours are selected in such a way that the texture and density of the shade determine the flow of colour with the center around which the figures are “screwed”.
