A man with a terrifying facial expression seems to be looking in the mirror. Behind him is a ghostly figure, his counterpart from the other world, probably, the herald the approaching death. The painting is known as a double self-portrait of Schiele. The artist experienced an internal conflict all his life and sought to express this in his work.
