Dancing figures on a white background

author

Varvara Stepanova

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow (Russia).

The artist used her own plot with moving characters, developing it towards greater abstraction. While five figures on a white background were completely readable, the extreme fragmentation of this painting does not allow you to determine the number of characters. The nature of their movements is multidirectional and chaotic; this makes the canvas more expressive. The artist combined some figures in pairs, and the depth of space appeared in the compositional construction. The author’s commitment to irregular geometric shapes and color contrasts remained unchanged.
