Cubist Composition. Sitting Woman

author

Vytautas Kairiūkštis

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

Briefly about the painting:

The fragmented geometric shapes without the use of outlines and contrasting color combinations are the main feature of the canvas. Formally, the work belongs to the nude genre – this is one of the favorite art motifs of Kairiūkštis. It is difficult to see the naked woman in the usual sense: the seated woman is guessed from the general outlines. Along with squares and irregular trapezes, the artist uses thin lines-waves that make the work look like lyrical. Perhaps, the woman is depicted at a dressing table – such a theme was actively developed, in particular, by French artists.
