Circus Rider

author

Aleksandr Shevchenko

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum (Russia).

The choice of the plot for this futuristic canvas is very successful – a circus artist dashingly racing on a white horse covered the whole space by her flickering red clothes. Her figure is the semantic and visual center of the picture. You can see the horse’s head and the backside of its body fragmentarily, while the faces of the audience merged into symbolic spots. Letters move along with the rider, and it seems that the whole world is going around – the artist created this impression by rounded lines repeated in different directions. The profile of the girl and her high headdress are effectively depicted in these “wires”.
