Archangel

description

Mediums: oil, cardboard.
Location: private collection.

The Swiss artist represented the biblical topic in an original manner that distinguishes the entire late period of his work. The figures in the paintings become large and translucent; they are often covered with decorative patterns. The archangel depicted by Otto Tschumi is most similar to an alien whose gender is difficult to determine. The smile of this mysterious creature with wings is especially unusual. In addition, the landscape surrounding the figure is difficult to identify with some kind of terrestrial landscape. The work is created in the artist’s favorite gamma – a combination of brown earth and clear blue sky.
