A very happy painting

author

Dorothea Tanning

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Paris National Centre of Arts of Georges Pompidou (France).

This surrealistic painting can be conditionally referred to subject still life. It was created some time after the wedding with M. Ernst and shows multiple trips made by the author. The composition includes different object – cases, boxes and an umbrella, city views (including smoking chimneys of factories, reflected in a large tilted mirror). However, a festive bouquet in the middle of a thin and constantly moving fabric primarily attracts attention. Among the happy folds some figures can be guessed; the male one in the blue suit is more clearly visible than the nude female one.
