A Burning City

author

Gerardo Dottori

description

Mediums: tempera, board.
Location: private collection.

The city burning in flames is a sad symbol of war and destruction, invariably evoking vivid emotions. The movement of light is conveyed very believably in the picture. To depict the flames, the author used pointed triangular shapes, while the waves of smoke and light coming from the center of the painting appear in the form of concentric circles overlapping each other. The image of the landscape from above is a characteristic feature of Dottori’s painting, which formed the basis of his works in the style of aero painting.
