Both the color palette and the techniques used in this early painting confirm the influence of traditional Russian woodcuts, iconography and folk art on the artist. “Nude”, although it contains elements of cubism (distorted perspective, the destruction of forms), does not fully apply to the cubist style. The limited palette, the use of white highlights and tightly attached black contours also resemble icons. Tatlin used such methods suggesting that a new icon appears in art – non-religious, for the present. Some art critics believe that this painting is the emulation of the works of Picasso and a vivid example of rondeau-cubism.
