Aleksandr Golovin

description

Mediums: сardboard, watercolor, white, mascara.
Location: State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg (Russia).

The painting, which is not a part of the famous “Spanish Suite” that Golovin created five years later, is based on impressions he got becoming acquainted with new art in Paris and after his travel to Spain. The painting in the style of art nouveau depicts a smiling young woman in a dark blue shawl. Large inflorescences in the luxurious black hair of the model that has got a beautiful hairstyle look like a contrasting colour effect. The artist used a unique compositional technique, placing the figure diagonally as if the girl had leaned back, looking at the young artist. It almost merges with the background – foliage lit by the sun on one side.
