author

Anthony Caro

description

Mediums: steel.
Location: Museum of Modern Art (New York, the USA).

In the sixties, Caro began to paint his sculptures in intense colours that emphasized the emotional component of the works. He cut out structural parts from a single sheet of metal, and also used steel beams and bolts, painted all this directly on the floor of his studio, and later connected them using a welding machine. The sculptor installed the compositions directly on the ground so that each viewer could freely approach the work and even fit inside it, creating his version of the sculpture. Like all other works of this period, “Midday” does not have distinct front and back; the sculpture is mounted in such a way as to demonstrate completely different sides from different angles of view, giving new interesting associations.
