author

Anthony Caro

description

Mediums: steel.
Location: Tate Modern Gallery (London, the UK).

This work is considered the first abstract sculpture of Caro. Created using industrial welding, which in the future became a visiting card of the master, it consists of several geometric figures painted in dark brown. According to the author, the sculpture was born thanks to an accidental discovery during the instinctive process of the experiment. This composition became not only a reporting point for Caro’s mature work but also became decisive for the post-war aesthetics of pure abstraction in British and world art.
