The work is considered the first utterly futuristic work of the artist. In this painting, Boccioni completely deviated from the pointillist technique of his teacher and focused on depicting modern society. The author depicted the customs and habits of the bourgeoisie in a peculiar caustic satirical manner. The absence of perspective and a schematic study of things create a sense of disorder and chaos, and the face of the cabaret singer depicted in close-up resembles a clown mask. The picture, which was rather coldly received by the public, is now considered one of the best works of Futurism.
