The emotions inherent in the dance are generated in the picture with the help of vorticist zigzags and diagonals, as well as by the comparison of strong and sometimes unexpected colour solutions. The artist’s very original and inventive use of the gamut of colours, critics say, prompted Lewis to invite Saunders specifically for painting in the de la Tour Eiffel restaurant, since he himself used a very limited palette. In this work, there is figurativeness (you can see a dancing couple); rather sharp dynamics are maintained with a clear rhythm of all elements. The painting was used as a cover for the book “Vorticism: New Perspectives” (Oxford University Press, 2013).
