Briefly about the painting:

The work created for the 30th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism reflected the artist’s childhood memories. The post-war capital of Latvia with ruined houses was more like a province – on the streets you could find, in addition to the horses, cows and other domestic animals. The joy of the end of the war is clearly read on the faces of a woman and her two children in the foreground, while the character in green (presumably this is a portrait of the artist’s mother) causes reflection on the victims and losses. Resisting the methods of Social Realism, Maija Tabaka uses a juicy expressionist palette that fills the picture with a special glow.
