American Central Bank

author

Philip Johnson

description

Three ledges of the structure are completed by steep gables, the prototypes of which were medieval houses along the canals in Amsterdam and Gothic cathedrals. Johnson wanted to create a “semblance of history in the city.” The main advantages are large, masterfully formed public spaces with galleries and an arcade flowing into the space of the bank hall, the majestic entrance hall and lift nodes.
