Winter Fores

author

David Hockney

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the Solomon Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, Spain.

Unlike many works of the artist, which he painted from photographs, this picture was reproduced from nature. David Hockney worked on the bend of an old Roman road in Yorkshire, not far from the place where he was born. The large-scale canvas, consisting of 15 separate elements, amazes you with its riot of colours and mysteriousness. Particular attention is drawn to an unusual perspective, which has not one but two vanishing points at once, which divert one’s eye along two roads in the forest at the same time.
