We are two mating boys

author

David Hockney

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: Hayward Gallery, London, the UK.

The artist created this painting during his studies at the Royal College of Art. In the composition that resembles a children’s drawing, the boys are depicted schematically, in the form of two defiantly bright shapeless figures. They are connected not only with the help of numerous thin ropes but also emotionally. At first glance, it seems that the boys are fighting somewhere in the toilet because the background is painted graffiti walls. However, if you look closely, you can see a poem written in small print on the right, which hints that the boys are actually kissing.
