Voyages of the Moon

author

Paul Nash

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Tate Gallery, London (the UK).

Briefly about the painting:

The plot of this painting was the interior of a restaurant in Toulon, where the artist made several drawings. Electric ceiling lamps associated with celestial objects were repeatedly reflected in the mirror walls and created a complete surrealistic picture. Such repetitive compositional solutions are found in the works of many British artists during this period, for example, in Nicholson’s abstract paintings and Moore’s sculptures. Paul Nash also included rounded figures in many of his compositions in the form of balls, boulders on the earth, the moon and the sun.
