description

Luhring Augustine Gallery, New York (the USA)

Enamel and silkscreen ink on linen.

The work establishes and visually denotes many dual qualities, such as visible and invisible, order and chaos. In the basic black painting, Chaos is depicted – the lines are random and intuitive. The order (logic and reason) is emphasized by the simplicity of white forms. The work also symbolizes the erosion of the boundaries between polar concepts. Christopher was inspired to use silkscreen printing by Andy Warhol – Wool returns elements of abstract expressionism to his art in his mature period; this contradicts his previous claim to deny such painting techniques. However, the author himself responded to such criticism that he simply seeks to explore painting in the modern world, whether it is a rejection of the act of creation through words or the creation of new dialogues with existing artistic contexts.
