Three female figures

author

Aleksandra Ekster

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: National Museum of Art, Kiev (Ukraine).

Apart from herself, the artist depicted two of her Kyiv friends – Evgenia Pribylskaya and Natalya Davydova, as well as her dog. In this painting, after the early still lifes and landscapes, the conventionality of the image was already present, and Ekster focused on contrasting colours (here it is deep blue background and rich red in the clothes and hat of one of the models). The art critics consider this painting to be made in the style of art nouveau; however, it lacks decorative elements and any ornaments.
