Theseus and the Minotaur

author

Nikos Engonopoulos

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

Engonopoulos showed the popular myth as a theatrical scene. The equal rivals are depicted at a tragic moment for the Minotaur when the hero has already taken him out of the maze. The master learnt to respect traditions and return to the historical roots, regardless of whether it concerns antiquity or recent history, from the lessons of Fotis Kontoglou; this is reflected in this work. The juicy painting with a special emphasis on modeling figures using shades of one local color is a characteristic technique of the artist. Most often, as in this work, it is red and blue. The artist returned to this plot several times.
