The White Circle

author

Alexander Rodchenko

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg (Russia).

Briefly about the painting:

A circle is always associated with reflections on infinity, and the color contrast of white and black used by the artist tells of the eternal struggle of opposites. This is good and evil, love and hate, heaven and hell. In the composition of Alexander Rodchenko, a white circle is depicted on top of a black one. Whether the author made any sense in such a coloristic decision or not, in any case, the abstract image is perceived as a victory of light, that is, good and fair. This is evidenced by the name of the work, and the fact that the white object is larger in size than the black one.
