For this surreal storyline, Browner borrowed motifs from the tarot cards, a set of 78 illustrated cards used in divination. It was the subject of interest to a wide range of representatives of the style. The juggler card (the first card in the deck of Taro) gave the author of the canvas a key prototype for a self-portrait: a big hat with an infinity sign (a symbol of life), a medieval costume, and the position of the hands. The juggler symbolizes creativity because he can create his personality through intelligence, invention, wit and initiatives. The objects placed on the table (a stylized dragonfly), a stick, a bowl, a sword and coins, illustrate the traditional symbols of the elements of fire, water, air and earth.
