The River

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Center for Contemporary Art, Riga (Latvia).

Briefly about the painting:

In terms of color solutions and a huge number of characters and various details, the work resembles “The Garden of Earthly Delights” by Jheronimus Bosch. The winding river, flowing between the banks inhabited by huge stone sculptures, looks like a metropolis. Boats with utensils and even beds, sailboats, rafts and a large habitable fabulous whale fish help people to lead their usual lives. Someone was fishing (but caught a bottle), someone was reading a newspaper; others sleep or dive, while the priest reads a prayer. Stone giants are watching over all this fuss. The idea of the satirical artist lies in their condemning positions.
