The Palace on the window cliffs

author

Raymond Georges Yves Tanguy

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The State Museum of Modern Art, Center Pompidou (Paris, France).

The abstract figures in the work consist of various details interconnected in a strange way. To create these forms, the artist used such textures as metal, stone and glass, which was not previously in his works. The plot of the picture seems pretty aggressive. The left figure holds an object that looks like a weapon in its “hand”, and the right one is directed towards it, as if in an attack, which makes the figures vaguely resemble strange and ridiculous fencers. The picture is made in subdued grayish-blue tones, interspersed with alarming colorful accents.
