The Millinery Shop

author

Edgar Degas

description

Mediums: oil on canvas.
Location: the Art Institute of Chicago.

Millinery was a designer and manufacturer of hats. This picture shows a woman looking at one of the hats in the store. The transition to factory production rendered manual work somewhat obsolete; this picture is a sort of tribute to this dying profession that he loved and respected.
