The Messenger

Location: The State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow.

A diploma work of Nicholas Roerich. The plot was taken from the ancient historical book “The Tale of Bygone Years”: a messenger in a boat hurries to a remote settlement with the important news that “A clan revolted against to a clan.” This is a picture from the life of the ancient Slavs. Thanks to this work, critics called the artist the ancestor of the Russian historical landscape.
