The collective work of the masters of analytical art on illustrations for the Kalevala epic turned out to be so successful mainly thanks to the efforts and graphic art of Mikhail Tsybasov. Together with Alice Poret, he created the largest number of works, including the famous “Meeting”, preceding the competition between the eternal rivals. Working on illustrations, the author plunged headlong into the atmosphere of an ancient epic, trying not only to depict the events that were happening, but also to show the inner motives and experiences of the characters. His goal was to demonstrate the events from the point of view of their participants, the heroes of the epic, to the viewer; he managed to do that thanks to his deep penetration into the archaic era in which the characters lived and acted.
