Portrait of Filonov

author

Mikhail Tsybasov

description

Mediums: watercolor, pastel, paper.
Location: The Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia (Petrozavodsk, Russia).

The artist was one of the most devoted students of Pavel Filonov and a loyal follower of his creative method throughout his career. A year before his death, Mikhail Petrovich created a series of portraits of his teacher, the most famous of which was a portrait on a blue background combined of some elements of Filonov’s works. Working from memory, he was able to completely restore the vivid image of the artist, his special look and even facial expressions. The artist made a special emphasis on the master’s hands that are even more eloquent than the calm and focused face of the teacher.
