Kurt Seligmann became one of the first art-refugees who came to the USA – the country welcomed this artistic brain drain as a positive for it factor. The surrealist from Switzerland held his solo exhibition one month after the arrival and presented his painting there. The work reflected the author’s deep interest towards alchemy. Here we can see the elements of Air and Water (they are at the right) at the moment of their meeting with Fire and Land (they are at the left). The rendezvous does not promise to be peaceful – the alarming background and guns they directed against each other show this.
