description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The National Museum of Art, Riga (Latvia).

Briefly about the painting:

From the mid-1980s, the artist was fascinated by the theme of depicting the life of gipsies. The composition of a collective nature conveys at the same time the wretched life of people living among nature, their fiery dances, and their manner of communicating with each other. The artist worked on each character as on a separate complete sketch and as if accidentally placing them in the space of one painting. Later she created her expressive canvas “The King of the Gipsies”, the main character of which is similar to Demon of Vrublev or Mtsyri, the painting “White Gipsies” and other thematic works.
