The Italian Straw Hat

author

Peter Blume

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, Connecticut (the United States).

Briefly about the painting:

In the paintings of Peter Blume, metaphors and fictional images are combined with technical virtuosity, reminiscent of the Northern Renaissance. The space of an ordinary large studio room with a curved ceiling is combined with views of the town of Sherman, in which the artist lived at the end of his life. Scenes of the city are scattered in such a way that new view appears in each window and aperture of the door. In the picture, you can see evidence of Blume’s integration into the art community of Connecticut: in particular, he depicts a moving model made by his friend, artist Alexander Calder.
