The Great Impossible

author

Katherine Linn Sage

description

Mediums: paper, watercolor, charcoal, glass lenses.
Location: The Museum of Modern Art, New York (the USA).

Briefly about the painting:

The surrealistic painting with elements of a collage becomes understandable after you read its title and take into account the difficult life circumstances of the last years of the artist. Having lost her husband, Sage experienced severe depression, tried to suicide, moreover, she could not regain her sight after undergoing several operations. Drops flow down the pale curtain (convex lenses are used for them); large boulders block up the bottom of the canvas. The overall nostalgic mood is supported by the gray-blue gamma of the painting.
