The Flame of the Revolution

The most significant early work of Mukhina was made in the style of symbolism with some similarities to cubism and futurism. In the work, we can see the motive of overcoming the spirit of all sensual. The movements of volumes look opposing; this makes the composition very dynamic, despite its small one-meter height. The half-naked genius of the revolution with a torch in his hand (the image of Sverdlov, but without portrait resemblance) is a romantic struggle of the Bolshevik, personifies the apotheosis of the rebellious elements. The original wax sketch is located in Feodosia at the V. Mukhina Museum, and a bronze copy from the Tretyakov Gallery was exhibited in 2017 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
