description

Mediums: gold plated steel.
Location: The park of the city of Targu Jiu (Romania).

The column is part of the monumental ensemble “The Way of Heroes” made in honour of the Romanian heroes of the First World War, which occupies significant territory in the city park. The ensemble consists of three sculptures: “The Gate of Kiss” (Brancusi used his motive for it), “Table of Silence” and “Endless Column” with an axis 1300 meters high. The monument was commissioned by the National League of Women of Gorge and is considered one of the great and significant complexes of outdoor park sculpture of the 20th century. Seventeen rhomboid blocks complete the half module. The upper part is considered to be the element in which the concept of infinity is expressed. The first version, 24 cm high, made of oak in 1918, is in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
