The City I dream

author

Victor Brauner

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The National Museum of Art, Bucharest (Romania).

It is believed that the city landscapes of Giorgio de Chirico inspired Brauner to create this plot. The street with a distorted perspective consists of strange buildings painted off-scale. Their shapes represent familiar objects – shoes, a female torso, an arm, a sculptural head, and a leg. Perhaps the work would not be so attractive without the image of the figure in the form. The traffic controller or conductor of an invisible military orchestra standing in front of a white cube points to city buildings, and this immediately attracts the viewer, making him focus on the images.
