description

Mediums: oil, panel.
Dimensions: 35 x 27 сm.
Location: Kunstmuseum Basel, Basel.

Some art experts say that in this picture the artist tried to convey the premonition of an impending war. However, others claim that Dali wanted to express his negative attitude towards his country’s politics.
We see the figure of a woman, her face and forearms bloodied, arms outstretched forward. Her pose is full of despair and helplessness, as she feels the oncoming danger. There is another figure behind. The second woman symbolizes the death and self-destruction of mankind. The burning giraffe is a symbol of war.
