1929
Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Museum of Modern Art, New York (the USA).
Briefly about the painting:
The early work reflects the artist’s passion for Cubism in the form that was characteristic of American art. He used the usual for this style theme and only some of the techniques of the fashionable style in America: geometric constructions of individual details of the composition, clarity of contours. However, the artist did not resort to the fragmentation of figures or architecture, leaving them recognizably real. The peaceful fishing scene is presented in spectacular contrasting colors – blue water and a white boat under a cloudy sky immediately attract the viewer’s attention.
