description

Private collection.

Oil, acrylic, canvas

A few decades after the creation of his outrageous “comic” paintings, Roy Lichtenstein was able to shock the public again by creating a series of works repeating the paintings of the great artists of modernism. He just redrew the plot of famous paintings, simplifying their colour scheme and composition. The work “The Bedroom” refers to Van Gogh’s famous painting “The Bedroom at Arles”, just the colours on it are poisonously bright, and the furniture is more modern. Regarding this picture, Lichtenstein himself said in jest, “I tidied up at his place. I think he will be happy when he returns from the hospital and finds that I hung his shirts and even bought new furniture”.
