The Adventures of a Young Lady

author

Paul Klee

description

Mediums: watercolor.
Location: Tate Modern Gallery, London.

Art critics explain the subject of this work in different ways. Some argue that the painting has erotic implication, because the objects surrounding the woman resemble phallic symbols, and even its name is associated with something indecent. According to other critics, there is something terrifying about this work – a strange female figure resembling a wooden doll with a huge head and blurred hands wanders through the forest, where mystical creatures appear on her way. Art critic Will Grohmann said that Klee depicted a «fashion beautiful lady», who feels herself defenseless, surrounded by «opressive spirits».
