One of the first works of Futurism, a graphic illustration of the first manifesto of this art movement written by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. The canvas, which depicts a street lamp emitting bright light, marks a decisive moment in the history of Futurism: the decomposition of light into separate fragments and demonstration of its continuous movement. In the author’s interpretation, the light of the lantern consists of thousands of tiny beams of green, purple and yellow. The young moon, almost invisible because of the blinding light of the lantern, symbolizes the dominance of human discoveries over nature.
