Flight of the swallows

author

Giacomo Balla

description

Mediums: tempera paints, paper.
Location: private collection.

The discrepancy between the artist’s method and the essential aesthetics of Futurists is noticeable in the work. The main point, the demonstration of speed and movement, is achieved by crushing objects into separate fragments, but Balla uses several different simultaneously moving trajectories for this. The direction of the swift flight of swallows is well seen in the picture. They form dynamic and flexible intersections of angles and circles, which create a striking effect of the interaction of refracted light rays and intersecting air currents. This painting not only demonstrates the deep analysis of natural phenomena by the master, but also is a symbol of the dynamics of the ever-changing world.
