1920
Mediums: oil, wood.
Location: the Museum of Fine Arts of Kostroma (Russia).
In this work, like in many paintings of the 1920s, the artist declared minimalism, anticipating the art movement that was founded later. The style that he developed during his years of study and work in France naturally coincided with Russian reality. The ascetic still life became a vivid means of expressing the tough economic situation. There is nothing but cheese on a plate and a knife on the table. The master skillfully depicted the texture of the objects; he “relished” the only product of that time.
